Women, Wisdom, and the Work That Matters: Perspectives from our Founder, Leanne King

In a field rooted in people, perspective is everything. For women in HR, the journey is as much about who you learn from as what you learn. Building a meaningful career isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about staying curious, seeking out diverse voices and being intentional about growth. The most impactful leaders understand that success in HR isn’t defined by policies or processes alone, but by the ability to connect, uplift and meet people where they are.

  1. What is one tip you would give your past self, or women trying to make their mark in HR?

Surround yourself, early and often, with women of greater knowledge, experience and wisdom.  To be clear, this isn’t an ageism thing (from the HR person), I think women of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds and age offer their unique perspective to the conversation.  HR is not rocket science – all though we have worked with some – it’s about talent, fulfillment, satisfaction, value and most importantly meeting people where they are at in THIS moment and helping them see (and realize) their greatest potential.

  1. What is your favorite thing about being a woman?

Very early in my career, I was an Avionics Technician while in the U.S. Air Force.  Had someone not pushed me to leverage my gifts for technical/mechanical tasks, I wouldn’t have the “operational” knowledge that I do today.  Those first few years were tough, but it made me stronger as a woman and gave me the wisdom and courage to make choices about who I wanted to be and want I wanted to do with my life.   I was able to transition from the flightline to logistics to manpower where I found my calling in leveraging others talents and abilities to complete the mission.  This is the good work that we focus on every day at SeeKing HR.

There is no longer a mold of what has to be or what is expected.  Women have choices!  Growing up in a time of global shifts toward gender equality, women today are stronger and more empowered to break barriers and create their path forward.  If I can help another woman find her voice, rise to greatness and then share her wisdom, I am going to rest well in the days ahead knowing the legacy continues.
