SeeKing HR Growing, Moving to Milam Building
(San Antonio, TX) – EmploYou, LLC, dba SeeKing HR, a San Antonio-based HR consulting services firm entering its third year of operation, is growing and moving into its first commercial office space in the historic Milam Building later this month after having just earned a General Services Administration (GSA) schedule contract. Following an arduous yearlong application process, SeeKing HR is the 110th vendor in the country and only the fifth in Texas to be awarded a GSA contract vehicle for Human Resources, Equal Employment Opportunity and Social Services.

SeeKing HR founder and certified HR professional Leanne King, SPHR, says, “Now that our company’s human resources qualifications and credit background have been vetted by the federal government, I predict that we will be very busy very soon.”

In fact, anticipating that her firm would be awarded a GSA schedule contract, King just inked a lease for approximately 1,000 square feet on the fourth floor of the Milam Building located at 115 E. Travis St.

“We’re very excited that Leanne and the SeeKing HR team are making the Milam Building their home,” says property manager Diane Coliz. “Leanne and her husband have really taken a hands-on approach to redesigning her suite, and they’re working to keep the building’s history and allure alive.”

The suite’s floor plan including a reception area and five offices will remain the same, but there are some minor renovations occurring, such as wall and cabinetry demolition, painting, flooring replacement, and installation of new data cabling and phone systems.

In fact, as the outdated wiring was removed, King preserved some of the original phone ringers. “The cabling and phone system were original to the 80-year-old building. So while it was important that we have modern technology infrastructure, we also wanted to preserve the charm of the old building,” says King. “We’re going to do an art installation of the ringers for display in the reception area.”
Additionally, as King prepares for a November soft opening, she is working with Reddito Art & Office Furniture’s fran Cohen and Andy Ortega to space plan and refurbish the suite with a conservational approach.

“Every item of furniture in SeeKing HR’s office is recycled, repurposed or refurbished,” say Cohen. “Leanne came to us with the idea of going green because she is environmentally-conscious. I think she liked that she could also get high quality,” Cohen adds.

King says she appreciates Cohen’s and Ortega’s artistic approach and ability to assess and deliver the aesthetics and functionality she wanted.

“Leanne is very organized and communicates well her vision for the space,” says Cohen, “and it has a very easy feeling. She wanted her clients to feel relaxed, and as a result, her office is filled with comfy conversation areas. She has really capitalized on the ambiance of the Milam Building.”

Moving into new digs is just one part of the firm’s total response to the GSA schedule award. SeeKing HR is currently working on their company’s marketing piece that will introduce the firm to federal agencies.

“We still have to conduct a per agency marketing effort to win sales, but it’s exciting to envision the possibilities for SeeKing HR,” says King.

As a disabled Air Force veteran with 23 years of HR experience, King is focused on the immediate offering of compensation and classification services, instructional design and delivery of employee training courses, and outplacement and transition counseling services, though she’s eligible to perform services for a total of 10 human resources related categories.

“Initially, we’re going to focus on reaching out to the Department of Labor – it’s a natural fit to serve as an extension of the DOL’s efforts as they ‘prepare America’s workforce for new and better jobs,’” says King. “We’ll also seek to work with the Bureau of Prisons and the Wounded Warrior Program through the Veterans Administration. Individuals transitioning from the penal system and the military need specialized help with workforce preparation. We have the expertise, and we’re ready to help them.”

The company’s next big step is to submit an application for Texas’ multiple award schedule (TXMAS), which basically adopts a federal schedule contract and approves the GSA supplier to be contracted to perform for state agencies the same services for which they are federally eligible.

“We think this is huge!” says King. “While we don’t have a signed order for work yet, we’re hopeful that we’ll be successful in our efforts to fund our GSA schedule contract.”

The firm is quickly moving ahead with their opening at the Milam Building this fall, and is also looking ahead to expansion plans. Already King has recruited a director of employment services and a marketing and communications specialist, and now she’s in the process of hiring the company’s fourth employee in four months – with plans to hire a fifth by year’s end.

Fortunately for SeeKing HR the Milam Building has an additional 800 square feet of available space just across the hall from the firm’s new office.

“Well, we certainly wish Leanne success,” says Coliz. “The Milam Building is a magical place. Anything is possible here, and we have a lot of success stories from our tenants to show it. I know Leanne will be no different, and we’re here to help her as she continues to achieve,” says Coliz.
