Enable America 2010 Veterans Day Observance
Enable America Observes Veterans Day 2010 with Disabled Veterans Employment Mentoring Month

TAMPA, FL - November 11, 2010: Enable America, a non-profit organization devoted to empowering people with disabilities to achieve independence through employment, is observing Veterans Day all month long by declaring November "Disabled Veterans Employment Mentoring Month";, and will be coordinating programs to improve employment opportunities for veterans and wounded warriors in Texas, Florida, and North Carolina.

"With November being the month our nation honors, thanks, and pays tribute to all of our brave soldiers, we felt it was most fitting to focus our November employment mentoring programs on men and women injured in the name of freedom," said Richard Salem, founder and CEO of Enable America. "These programs have been proven to open doors to all people with disabilities, and this is another important step in reaching out to our disabled veterans who want to work, but find difficulty in getting a job."

During the entire month of November, more than 100 disabled veterans and wounded warriors will participate in Enable America's Path to Employment Program (PEP) which will provide the veteran participants valuable tools, resources, mentors, and professional HR 'Career Coaches' to aid and enhance their job searches.

"We have developed two programs which we have found provide the greatest assistance when the unemployment rate is high," said Steve LaBour, Executive Director of Enable America. "First is our 'Career Mentoring Days' that matches mentors from local companies with mentees from the community, disabled veterans and wounded warriors to help the veteran learn more about their career interests and add to their network of individuals who can help land a job. Second, is our Job Seekers Workshops, taught by HR professionals, who become 'Career Coaches' assigned to each of the participants."

The workshops provide the veterans comprehensive training on resume and cover letter writing; how to fill out on-line job applications; how to "de-militarize" their resumes; how to dress for an interview; tips on how to interview; and how to translate their skills, talents and military experience into a civilian job and career.

"While this is the right month to focus on this initiative, we won’t limit our outreach to just November," LaBour said. "Enable America coordinates employment mentoring and Job Seeker Workshops year-round, and we'll continue to make the connections between employers who wish to diversify and enrich their workforce with those with disabilities who are ready, willing and able to work."
